Our commitment

The Prospect Volunteer Firemen's Relief Association is committed to ensuring prospectrelief.com is usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. The information here — about our mission, governance, officers, and how to reach us — should be accessible to every resident we serve.

Standard we follow

We aim for conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard cited by the U.S. Department of Justice for state and local government websites.

What we've done

  • Visible keyboard focus on every interactive control and a "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page.
  • Full keyboard support for navigation, including the mobile menu (Esc to close, focus returns to the toggle).
  • Screen-reader-friendly markup: landmark regions, proper heading order, descriptive image alt text, decorative icons marked aria-hidden.
  • Honors the operating-system "reduced motion" preference — animations and smooth scroll respect that setting.
  • Color contrast meets WCAG AA for body text, links, and meaningful interface elements.
  • External links announce that they open in a new window for screen-reader users.

Known limitations

  • Officer roster fetched from the department site. The Officers page pulls live data from prospectfd.com. If that service is unreachable, an error notice is shown with a link to email us for the current roster.
  • Embedded fonts and icons. Google Fonts and Font Awesome are loaded from third-party CDNs; their availability depends on those services. Text remains readable in their fallback fonts.
  • Older PDF documents. A small number of historical PDFs (by-laws, meeting minutes) may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We will provide an accessible alternative on request.

Report a barrier

If you cannot access content or use a feature on this site, please tell us. We will make a reasonable effort to provide the information in an accessible format or to fix the underlying issue.

When you contact us, please include:

  • The web address (URL) of the page you were on.
  • A description of the problem.
  • The browser, device, and any assistive technology you were using, if you know.
  • Your preferred way for us to follow up.

Alternative formats

If you need the content of a page in an alternative format — large print, accessible PDF, plain text, or read aloud over the phone — call the station and we will arrange it.

Continuous improvement

We review accessibility with each update to the site and welcome feedback from the community.
